Who am I?
I’m a vivacious idealist, food and fitness lover, with a slight obsession with avocados, travel, and furry pets. In my spare time, I enjoy stargazing, downhill skiing, belly dancing, playing rugby, getting muddy, and giggling (mostly at myself). I’m also a supporter of random dance parties, terrible off-key car karaoke, road trips, movie marathons, and eating the peanut butter straight out of the jar. At any given moment, I’m either jumping around hyperactively, enthusiastically channeling my inner geek, or I’m sleeping. Har!
How did I get started in fitness and nutrition?
Even though I have always been active, I didn’t always understand the role of nutrition and stress management on my energy, performance, rehabilitation, body composition, and mental and physical health. I learned some of these lessons the hard way (as most of us usually do!), which fueled my passion professionally.
I used to have very low self-esteem, although it wasn’t always obvious since I’m a loud, happy-go-lucky woman and usually cracking jokes. Truthfully, I experienced body dysmorphia, self-hate, anxiety attacks, and made many unhealthy decisions. I was too shy to ask for help so I stubbornly buried myself in a growing to-do list. With over a dozen urinary tract infections, reoccurring bronchitis, and multiple strains and injuries, I got fed up. I was frustrated that I was constantly sick, never looked like I exercised, and most importantly, that I lacked confidence. So I started on my journey of self-discovery, which led to fitness opportunities, a change in career, and the launch of My Fabulous Self Campaign.
I have over 15 years of experience as a rugby player for the Ottawa Beavers Banshees RFC and University of Ottawa Gee-Gees. I’m also an experienced Fitness Model/Figure Athlete Competitor (OPA, IDFA, SAF), and aspiring Muay Thai fighter.
I am extremely passionate about nutrition, fitness, and education. I think of myself as a student for life; the learning never ends! I’m also an advocate for integrative medicine, which means I strongly believe in respecting my scope of practice and collaborating with health and medical professionals.
